Nightingale Wurru wurru biik includes four new communities for Brunswick – Nightingale Wurru-wurru, Laak, Ngawan and Yambook. 100% of apartments for this project are now allocated. The four new communities will call Albion Street, Brunswick home. From the early stages of these projects, Nightingale Housing engaged in consultation with Wurundjeri Elders, Aunty Julieanne Axford and Aunty Gail Smith. Sarah Lynn Rees has also been working with our team, providing Indigenous architectural consultation to the project. One outcome of this ongoing consultation process is that each community has been given a Woi Wurrung name around the theme of the ‘sky’ or ‘wurru-wurru’, one of the six layers of Wurundjeri Country:
Nightingale Laak (‘cloud’) – South East Nightingale Wurru-wurru (‘sky’) – South West Nightingale Ngawan (‘sun’) – North East Nightingale Yambook (‘moon’) – North West Together, they are Nightingale Wurru wurru biik meaning ‘Sky Country’. These communities are ideally situated with a short walk to Anstey train station, Albion Street bus services and Sydney Road tram services as well as direct access to the Upfield bike path. Ample bike parking and car sharing services are also incorporated into the design.
